UW System Board of Regents approve UWRF’s mission statement change

October 5, 2018 - At its October meeting, the UW System Board of Regents approved a change to the UW-River Falls mission statement that better aligns with the university’s strategic plan, Pathway to Distinction, and contains required language regarding the types of student populations, academic programs, and degrees conferred at the institution.

The new mission statement represents the evolution of the campus since 1988, the last time the mission statement was officially revised. The new statement was vetted through a participatory process gaining the support of faculty and student governance and culminating with a positive public hearing in September.

The new UW-River Falls mission statement is as follows:

“Our mission is to help prepare students to be productive, creative, ethical, engaged citizens and leaders with an informed global perspective.

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls serves students who are full-time and part-time, undergraduate, graduate, non-traditional, distance-education and non-degree-seeking. The university offers programs in agriculture, food and the environment; arts and humanities; social and natural sciences; engineering and technology; business administration, marketing and economics; and education and professional studies; offering degrees at the associate, bachelors, masters, and education specialist levels.”

Of particular significance is the acknowledgment of the university’s commitment to international education, providing a well-deserved recognition of its efforts to offer both local and global learning opportunities. Students from more than 20 countries attend UW-River Falls and nearly a third of UWRF seniors report having participated in a study abroad program.
