UWRF Presents Commissioned Composer Concert

March 26, 2012--UW-River Falls will present the 46th annual Commissioned Composer Concert on April 5, at 7:30 p.m., in Abbott Concert Hall of the Kleinpell Fine Arts building. The concert will feature works by Composer Cort Lippe.

Lippe, an associate professor of composition at the University at Buffalo, New York, and director of the Lejaren Hiller Computer Music Studios, will be at UWRF April 3-5, conducting master classes and working with university ensembles.

Lippe has given more than 100 presentations and guest lectures around the world and has written for most major ensemble formations.  His music has been performed at more than 100 major festivals worldwide, including the International Computer Music Conference, ISCM World Music Days, Gaudeamus (The Netherlands), the Music Today Festival (Tokyo), the Bourges Synthese Festival (France), the Huddersfield Festival (UK), and SARC's Sonorities Festival (UK).

The UWRF Commissioned Composer Program is the longest continuously-running project of its kind in the nation. Music Professor Emeritus Conrad De Jong initiated the program in 1967 Other composers who have been part of this project over the years include John Cage, Morton Feldman, Libby Larsen and Fisher Tull.
