UW-River Falls hosts successful Minnesota Writing and English Conference

April 25, 2025 - The University of Wisconsin-River Falls English Department hosted the 2025 Minnesota Writing and English (MnWE) Conference in March, attracting over 100 faculty members and students from Minnesota and Wisconsin. The hybrid-format conference saw approximately 94% of participants attending in person.

UWRF students collaborated faculty to develop two presentation panels, one on reclaiming writing in the age of AI and another on the value of reading and writing in contemporary times.

Keynote addresses focused on the theme, "Engaging Students During Turbulent Times," featuring speakers from UW-River Falls, Minnesota State University, Mankato, the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, Century College, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the MnWE Committee.

Attendees connected with colleagues from across the upper Midwest, discussing best practices for teaching and learning writing and literature. Organizers said the conference was an opportunity to exchange ideas and gain fresh perspectives on teaching and writing.

“Together, we had the opportunity to foster academic discussions on the importance of English Studies,” said Mialisa Moline, UWRF English professor. “Hosting this event during challenging times was particularly impactful for presenters and attendees alike.”
