'Shoot Like a Girl' author MJ Hegar to speak at UW-River Falls Nov. 9

October 30, 2017-- Retired Air Force Major Mary Jennings Hegar will speak at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Thursday, Nov. 9, as part of the Walker and Helen Wyman Performing Arts and Speaker Series.

Hegar will speak at 7 p.m. in the Riverview Ballroom in the University Center. A book signing opportunity will follow the speech. The event is free and open to the public.

Hegar, whose helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan, earning her a Purple Heart, has since become an advocate for women in combat. Her 2017 memoir, “Shoot Like a Girl,” has won wide acclaim and will soon be turned into a motion picture. Hegar, named one of Foreign Policy magazine’s Leading Global Thinkers of 2013, is one of only six women ever to be awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and one of only two to receive it with a Valor Device.

The Wyman Lecture Series is sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs and Student Involvement at UW-River Falls.
