Severe Weather Update: Feb. 20, 2023

The following communication was issued to the UW-River Falls community from Provost David Travis on Monday, February 20, 2023.

Dear Campus Community,

Due to the impending winter storm predicted for later this week, a decision has been made to move all classes to virtual formats starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday and continuing through the end of the day Friday. It is my hope that by providing this early decision, instructors can make appropriate accommodations ahead of time to minimize course disruptions. This is a serious storm with snow totals of up to 20 inches forecasted by Friday morning and the possibility of blizzard-like conditions both Wednesday evening and Thursday.

The health and safety of our students and employees is a top priority at UW-River Falls. Please begin making appropriate arrangements to ensure you are in a safe situation as the storm moves into the area beginning Tuesday night. For those on campus, be sure to review our campus winter weather safety tips here. Employees are reminded to use their best judgment and coordinate with their supervisors, per our inclement weather policy, if they feel it is unsafe to travel to campus.

University Center, Riverside Commons, Falcon Center and Campus Rec will remain operational despite classes moving to virtual formats. Hours and options may be limited depending on staffing. Please refer to those offices directly with questions. The UWRF C.H.I.L.D Center will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, tentatively opening on Friday. The Chalmer Davee Library will close Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 9 p.m. and resume regular hours on Thursday, Feb. 23.

UWRF will continue to monitor weather conditions and will provide updates as warranted.
