Senior BFA exhibition at UW-River Falls

 

October 8, 2018 - University of Wisconsin-River Falls seniors Raymond Beech, Runze Du, Grace Frikken, Samantha Garvin, Andrew Le, Holly Rapoport and Cynthia Schmidtke will present their Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree exhibitions in Gallery 101 in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building at UW-River Falls from Oct. 8-Nov. 2. On display will be graphic design, ceramics, paintings, printmaking, drawings, sculptural glass work.

Grace Frikken of Cambridge, Minn., is a Bachelor of Science in art education candidate and Bachelor of Fine Art candidate with a major emphasis in painting and a minor emphasis in art history. On display are paintings that exhibit relations to breast cancer.

Samantha Garvin is a graphic designer working out of River Falls who is working towards her BFA in graphic design with a secondary emphasis in drawing. She works mostly in collage, watercolor paint, charcoal, and pen. Her are related to her emotional battle after her mother’s passing.

Cindy Schmidtke of Farmington, Minn., is a BFA candidate with a major emphasis in ceramics and a minor emphasis in drawing. On display are her utilitarian ceramic forms that reflect her family traditions and experiences with anxiety.

Holly Rapoport of River Falls is a Bachelor of Fine Art candidate with a major emphasis in printmaking and minor emphasis in drawing. On display are psychological self-portraits, including an instillation of copper etchings addressing repetitive thought patterns associated with obsessive compulsive disorder and life-size illustrations focused on dissociative psychosis.

Andrew Le is a BFA candidate from Prior Lake, Minn. His primary focus is printmaking and ceramics. Le will exhibit sculptural ceramic work that is a “fallacy of the fear of the simple and unextraordinary.”

Runze Du is a BFA candidate from China with a primary focus in graphic design and a minor emphasis in drawing. Du will exhibit alternative graphic work focused on cultural diversity and reflection and visual communication.

Raymond Beech of St. Paul, Minn., is a BFA candidate with a major emphasis in glass and a minor emphasis in photography. He displays sculptural glass work exploring organic forms and the negative space they create.

An exhibition reception with the artists is Oct. 12 from 4-7 p.m. The event and reception are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday from 2-7 p.m., and Friday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
