Ready, Set, Film: UW-River Falls Falcon Film Festival

Mar. 11 2011—“Ready Set, Film,” the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcon Film Festival is underway. This annual event is an opportunity for the university's film students to showcase their work to the community. Film Competition, Film Screening and Film Festival III are all sections of this year’s competition.

Earlier this month, eleven teams of UWRF students had 48 hours to produce a short film based upon character, occupation, pop and genre. This criteria was randomly drawn.

The community can vote for their favorite film March 21-23. Film screenings will take place at the Falcon’s Nest in the University Center from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. each of those three days.

The 2011 competition will finish with the Falcon Film Festival III event on March 24 at 7 p.m., also in the Falcon’s Nest. Competitors will be given a chance to compete for awards such as “Best Director,” “Best Actor,” “Best Technical” and “Peoples Choice Award.” A behind-the-scenes documentary on the competition will be shown prior to these awards. Following the conclusion of the event, the award-winning documentary film “Wasteland” will be shown.

Comic sketches from the upcoming production of “Art: What is the Meaning of That?” will also be displayed at the event.

“This year’s competition saw a rise in participation by at least 50 percent from the first event last year, which will hopefully continue to grow in popularity and attract new budding UWRF student filmmakers,” says Erik Johnson, visiting assistant professor of digital film and television.
