Magara Maeda receives national teaching award

Magara Maeda UWRFOctober 29, 2020 - The Board of Directors of the American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ) has announced that Senior Lecturer Magara Maeda has been selected as the recipient of AATJ’s 2020 Teacher Award in the college category. Maeda teaches Japanese at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and for the UW System Collaborative Language Program.

“It is clear that you excel in all of the areas that we want to recognize and honor with this award: quality and innovative teaching, service to the profession and to the community, participation in professional development activities, and advocacy for your program and Japanese language education as a whole,” wrote Junko Mori, AATJ president, in her award letter.

In a non-Covid-19 year, the award would be presented during AATJ’s Fall Conference – part of the ACTFL Annual Conference in November. Since the in-person conference has been cancelled, Maeda was recognized during a webinar October 24.
