Falcon sculpture on Karges Center to be moved Wednesday

May 8, 2018 – A University of Wisconsin-River Falls icon will find a new home Wednesday.

As part of the scheduled deconstruction of the R.A. Karges Center, the building’s famous sculpture, “The Falcon,” will be removed from the north exterior wall of the building sometime on Wednesday, May 9, weather permitting.

After removal, the sculpture will be taken to its new home -- the Falcon Center for Health, Education and Wellness. Last fall, a campus-wide vote was held to determine the destination for the sculpture, which was commissioned in 1960 by the UWRF Foundation and installed in 1962.

Karges Center served as home to the university’s Health and Human Performance Department and a number of its athletic teams, dating back to 1962. After deconstruction, the present site will become green space.

Following the sculpture’s removal and relocation, the university asks residents to “pardon our mess” along Cascade Avenue during May. Heavier deconstruction work on the site is scheduled to begin on or about May 14, again weather permitting.

NOTE:  Due to rainy weather on Wednesday, the sculpture was taken down on Thursday, May 10.
