Dairy Judging Team Takes Second Place at All-American Contest

September 16, 2015 -- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Dairy Judging Team took second place overall at the 52nd All-American Dairy Judging Contest in Harrisburg, Pa., on Sept. 14.
 
A total of 15 universities competed in the collegiate division where team members were required to judge 10 classes of cattle and give oral reasons on five of the classes. The UW-River Falls team also took second place in the oral reasons component of the contest.
 
Team members were Cole Mark of Elmwood, Eryn Orth of Winona, Minn., Emily Pieper of New Prague, Minn., and Jacob Pintens of Dallas. Mark and Pintens are dairy science majors; Orth and Pieper are agricultural business majors. Individually, Pintens placed second overall in the contest, Orth placed ninth, Mark placed 13th and Pieper took 20th place, out of the 60 individual competitors. The team was coached by Steve Kelm, professor of Dairy Science and co-chair of the Animal and Food Science Department at UW-River Falls.
