Animal and Food Science Department honored with 2017 Regents Award for Teaching Excellence
The Animal and Food Science Department at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls has been honored with the 2017 Regents Award for Teaching Excellence. The department is home to the animal science major, the largest enrolled major on the UW-River Falls campus. The department also houses the dairy science major, annually ranked as one of the top three largest undergraduate dairy science programs in the nation in terms of enrollment.
 
Annual Colt Sale Set for May 6
The 41st Annual UW-River Falls Colt Sale is set for Saturday, May 6. Fifty-six high quality two-year-old horses that have been trained by UW-River Falls students enrolled in the Principles of Training Horses class will be offered for sale at the UWRF Campus Farm, 1475 Wasson Lane, River Falls.
 
Brazilian-American musician and composer Jovino Santos Neto is artist-in-residence, concerts April 20-22
Celebrate UW-River Falls Year of Brazil with the RADD Jazz Series 2017 Earth Day Concert featuring One World Consort and special guest artist Brazilian-American pianist and composer Jovino Santos Neto on Thursday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building. Admission is free and open to everyone.

Finals Fest: Lizzo with special guest Jesse McCartney on campus May 5
Finals Fest at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls will showcase two acts on Friday, May 5, in the Falcon’s Nest of the University Center. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with music beginning at 8 p.m. The concert is for all ages and is free and open to the public.
 
Interactive Ag Day on Campus April 25
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Collegiate Farm Bureau chapter will host the fifth annual Ag Day on Campus on Tuesday, April 25, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The interactive event is free and open to the public.
 
Lecture series features Duchess Harris and Judy Freund
Duchess Harris, co-author of “Hidden Human Computers: The Black Women of NASA,” will speak about the work of her grandmother, Miriam D. Mann, and the other “Black Human Computers” who were recently highlighted in the film "Human Figures."
 
McLean named ASABE Agricultural Engineering Student of the Year
University of Wisconsin-River Falls senior AnDrew McLean was honored with the Agricultural Engineering Technology Student of the Year Award at the March 29 meeting of the Wisconsin chapter of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) in Oshkosh.
 
Six undergraduates showcase research at State Capitol
State legislators joined UW System and institutional leaders in welcoming 125 students and more than 50 faculty mentors to the State Capitol for the UW System’s 14th Annual Research in the Rotunda event April 12. Six students participated in the event from UW-River Falls.
 
Testimony from UW-River Falls presented at state budget hearing in Ellsworth
UW-River Falls Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Faye Perkins testified April 19 before the Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee at Ellsworth High School. One of six hearings around the state of Wisconsin in April, the public hearing served as an opportunity for Wisconsin state legislators to hear commentary and recommendations from residents and officials regarding the state’s proposed budget. Perkins spoke on behalf of state investment in the UW System, emphasizing UW-River Falls commitment to students and the state.
 
Transition to leadership roles workshop offered
The role of a leader differs from that of a technical expert. Understanding this difference is key to making the transition into leadership, which is the focus of a half-day workshop offered by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on June 29 from 9 a.m.-noon in the Regional Development Institute on campus.
 
University Theatre presents ‘STUFF II: Consumption Dysfunction'
Seventeen years ago, University Theatre created an original comic show that talked about the dangers of consumerism and its effects...just like us, they are back with more stuff.
 
UW System Board of Regents approves new online Bachelor of Science in Applied Computing program
The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents approved a Bachelor of Science in Applied Computing program April 7. The new degree will be available online through UW-River Falls and four additional UW campuses. The program was developed in partnership with, and will be administered by, UW-Extension. The 61-credit online degree program will launch in September 2017, pending Higher Learning Commission approval.
 
UW-River Falls Glass Club hosts Spring Sale
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Glass Club is holding their annual Spring Glass Sale April 29-May 2 in the Falls Room located in the lower lever of the University Center.
 
UW-River Falls offers social media workshop for businesses
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls is offering a workshop for any small business owner, manager or solopreneur who is overwhelmed with the need to maintain a social media presence for their business. The “Social Media for Business Workshop” is Wednesday, May 24, at the UWRF Hudson Center in Hudson.
 
UW-River Falls receives STARS Silver Rating for Sustainability Achievements
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls has earned a STARS Silver Rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). STARS, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education.
 
UW-River Falls to offer summer ACT test preparation classes
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls will offer test preparation classes in June and July for high school students planning to take the ACT, a popular admissions test measuring academic readiness for college. Students may attend one of two, four-day sessions, beginning June 19 on the River Falls campus or July 17 at the UWRF Hudson Center in Hudson.
