UWRF to host free screening of horror film, “Dead Media,” April 29

UW-River Falls to host free screening of horror film, “Dead Media,” April 29 at Falls Theatre 

Screening to be followed by Q&A with filmmaker Joseph Scrimshaw 

River Falls, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Music and Stage and Screen Arts Department will host a screening of the horror film, “Dead Media,” Wednesday, April 29, at 5:30 p.m. at Falls Theatre, 105 S. Main St., River Falls. The screening will be followed by a brief Q&A session with the film’s writer and director, Joseph Scrimshaw. The event is free and open to the public.   

In the film, a troubled young woman wants to relax by streaming an old horror movie. Her lonely Gen X uncle demands they watch it on DVD, but the disc is haunted, plunging them into a movie night that won't die. 

Scrimshaw, originally from Minneapolis, is a filmmaker based in Los Angeles and is an experienced writer, director, actor, producer and comedian in multiple mediums. 

Scrimshaw has written for Adult Swim's fantasy comedy TV show, “Tigtone,” the movie-riffing group, “RiffTrax,” the public radio sketch comedy show, “Wits,” the scripted podcast, “Getting On with James Urbaniak” and more. 

Scrimshaw’s film, “The Narrator,” starring Phil LaMarr, won the Silver Award for Best Experimental short at the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology. His 22-minute horror short, “The Nightmare Adorable,” has played in 20 festivals, winning Best Short at the Bloody Mirror festival. His plays, “Adventures in Mating,” “An Inconvenient Squirrel” and “My Monster” (written with Bill Corbett) have been performed worldwide.
