University Theatre to present ‘Cabaret’

March 17, 2022 - University Theatre at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls will present “Cabaret” by Kander and Ebb March 31- April 2 and April 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Blanche Davis Theatre in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building.

“Cabaret” is a fierce and sensual musical set in the seedy underground nightclub culture of 1929-30 Berlin. A struggling American writer meets a colorful cast of characters including a vivacious and morally questionable cabaret singer, a respectable spinster landlady, a successful Jewish grocer, and the hedonistic dancers of the Kit Kat Klub. The charismatic gender-bending Master of Ceremonies oversees the proceedings as the characters search for ways to navigate the alarming influence of the Nazis as they ascend to power.

Please note: This production contains mature language and themes including violence, drug use, and abortion.

The play is directed by UWRF theatre instructor Kathy Welch. The cast consists of Adrienne Quinlan of Watertown, Minn., as Sally; Billy Chester of Medford, Minn., as Cliff; Meredith Bowermaster of White Bear Lake, Minn., as Emcee and Customs Officer; Jesse Ahlgren of Prescott as Ernst and Sailor 2; Mitchell Engel of Jordan, Minn., as Schultz; Etta Frase of Oakdale, Minn., as Fritzie Kost; Flora Sherr-Nelson of Stillwater, Minn., as Schneider; Michael Kerr of River Falls as Nazi Bodyguard, Sailor 1, Bodyguard, and Cabaret Customer; Meghan Jirik of Rochester, Minn., as Max and Nazi Bodyguard; Holly Zimmerman of Antigo as Party/Cabaret Guest; Amanda Marecek of Black River Falls as Lulu; Autumn Wood of Somerset as Rosie; Cailyn Kuechle of Kimball, Minn., as Victoria; Katie Byers of Osceola as Bobby; Layla Murray of Big Lake, Minn., as Frenchie; Maggie Wallin of Downing as Chanteuse; Sophia Hilo of Rosemount, Minn., as Texas/Gorilla; and Lillian Stanley of Vadnais Heights, Minn., as Helga.
