Bowls for Hope Invites Charitable Organization Requests for 2016 Event
Early each year the University of Wisconsin-River Falls works with the community to raise funds through the Bowls for Hope event in which proceeds raised help a worthy nonprofit organization make a difference in the St. Croix Valley. Applications are now open for the 2016 recipient of this charity event. The 2016 Bowls for Hope event is Tuesday, March 8, from 5-7 p.m. at UW-River Falls.
 
Grant Awarded to Create Business Incubator to Serve St. Croix Valley
A local partnership of the City of River Falls, River Falls Economic Development Corporation, University of Wisconsin-River Falls, and the Chippewa Valley Technical College has been awarded a $1.4 million grant to construct a business incubator to serve the St. Croix Valley region.
 
New Engineering Programs at Three UW Campuses Celebrated Tuesday
The collaboration that led to the addition of three new undergraduate engineering programs at University of Wisconsin institutions in northwest Wisconsin was celebrated Tuesday as a model that should be followed elsewhere in Wisconsin.
 
Public Astronomy Talks and Observatory Viewings Announced
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Physics Department begins its fall season of free public observatory viewings and astronomy discussions on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Objects to be seen include planets, globular clusters, open clusters, nebulae, galaxies, moons, and double stars.
 
St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra Collaborates With Irish Tenor Anthony Kearns at Concert
University of Wisconsin-River Falls students, alumni and community members in the St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra will collaborate with Anthony Kearns, leading Irish tenor, when he visits the St. Croix Valley for a rare solo performance on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minn. Kearns will sing a variety of selections from “Bring Him Home” from Les Miserable, to his signature interpretation of “Grenada” and much, much more. The performance is open to the public.
 
USAID Pakistan Dairy Delegation Visits UW-River Falls
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls global reach was showcased recently as the USAID Pakistan Dairy Delegation visited Wisconsin for a conference coordinated by UW-River Falls. In conjunction with the USAID Training for Pakistan (TFP) project, UWRF hosted the International Consortium for Dairy Farm Safety Training Program at its Mann Valley Farm Sept. 27-28.
 
UW-River Falls Announces Scholarship Guarantee Program
In an effort to help students access excellent, high-quality education at an affordable price, UW-River Falls announced today a new Scholarship Guarantee program. The program, aimed at providing financial support for qualified incoming freshmen regardless of their financial need, will offer a guaranteed scholarship to students who meet specific academic achievement criteria beginning with the fall 2016 semester.
 
UW-River Falls Falcon Band to Present Concert Oct. 22
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcon Band, a jazz/rock production ensemble, is presenting their first concert of the semester on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building.
 
UW-River Falls Inducts New Class into Athletic Hall of Fame
Nine individuals and one team were inducted into the UW-River Falls Athletic Hall of Fame Friday evening as part of the annual UWRF Homecoming festivities. A large crowd was on hand for the ceremony as inductees spoke fondly of their UWRF experiences. Honorees were also presented at halftime of the Homecoming football game and participated in the annual Homecoming parade on Saturday.
 
UW-River Falls Named a Top Performer in 2015 Sustainable Campus Index
The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) has recognized UW-River Falls as a sustainability leader in the 2015 Sustainable Campus Index. UWRF ranked fourth in the Buildings subcategory.
 
UW-River Falls Professor’s Research Draws Visit from Lt. Governor
University of Wisconsin-River Falls Associate Professor of Soil Science and Geology Holly Dolliver is working to evaluate the environmental impact of frac sand mining and her work drew the attention of Wisconsin Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch during a recent visit.
 
UW-River Falls Student Participates in National Agricultural Education Symposium
Tyler Foote, a senior agricultural education major at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, was one of only 21 students from across the nation selected to attend the National Teach Ag Campaign Future Agriculture Teacher Symposium Sept. 22-25, 2015 in Washington, D.C.
 
UW-River Falls Students Present BFA Exhibitions in Gallery 101
University of Wisconsin-River Falls seniors Rachael Starke, Krysta Fisher, Kristopher Stempel, Timothy David Luedtke, and Risa Matz will present their Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree exhibitions in Gallery 101 in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building Oct. 23-Nov. 2. On display will be ceramics, mixed media paintings, printmaking and bookbinding.
 
UW-River Falls Team Takes Third Place in MACHS Competition
Fourteen students from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls attended the 44th Annual Mid-America Collegiate Horticulture Society (MACHS) conference hosted by Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, October 8-11. The UWRF team took third place.
 
UW-River Falls University Theatre Presents ‘The Spitfire Grill’
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls University Theatre will present “The Spitfire Grill,” Oct. 29-31 and Nov. 5-7, in the Blanche Davis Theatre located in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.
