Landon Quan finished six and half years of service with the U.S. Army National Guard in August. He served as a terrain analyst sergeant and a team leader for a geographic intelligence team during his service with 34th Infantry Division of Minnesota.
At UWRF, Quan is doing research under biotechnology and chemistry Professor Ross Jilk to analyze and quantify the glucosinolate content in pennycress. Quan plans to exhibit his research at the URSCA Fall Gala. After graduation, he hopes to work in research and attend graduate school.
“Throughout the years I was surprised at the number of veterans who were enrolled in the same classes I was. I don’t think I went a single semester where I didn’t share at least one class with another veteran,” said Quan. “I often missed class due to extended drills or additional orders. I felt the faculty were fair and accommodating when dealing with the class and lab work I missed while holding me to the same standard as the other students.”
