7th Annual Bowls for Hope Event to Benefit Assistance and Resource Center (ARC)
Each March the University of Wisconsin-River Falls works with the community to raise funds through the Bowls for Hope event where proceeds raised help a worthy organization make a difference in the St. Croix Valley. Assistance and Resource Center, Inc. (ARC) has been selected as the benefiting organization this year.
 
More Than $800,000 in Grants Awarded to UW-River Falls Plant and Earth Science Faculty
Faculty in the Plant and Earth Science Department at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls were recently awarded three separate grants from the USDA, totaling more than $800,000. The projects will not only enhance UW-River Falls student learning but will also engage and benefit growers, producers, area residents and youth.
 
New Federal Perkins Loan Extension Act of 2015 Will Positively Impact Hundreds of UWRF Students
Since September 30th, 2015 many students who had relied on the Perkins Loan Program were left empty handed. The program’s September lapse cut off the ability of approximately 1,500 colleges and universities across the country to make low interest loans to students just starting college. But, with the passing of the Federal Perkins Loan Extension Act of 2015 on December 18, 2015 – it looks like these students are going to get a second chance.

UWRF Offers Engineering Camp for Teens
Wisconsin and Minnesota teenagers with an interest in math and science can explore engineering when they attend a week-long summer camp on the University of Wisconsin-River Falls campus. The UW-River Falls and University of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Engineering will host Camp Badger Exploring Engineering© on June 19-25 for students entering eighth grade in the fall and who apply by March 7.
 
UW-River Falls Crop and Soil Science Student Graduates on the Fast Track
Joseph Markgraf came to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) from his hometown of Antigo in August 2013, and left in December 2015 with his diploma in hand and a full-time position. Markgraf is one of only five students in the past 15 years who entered UW-River Falls with fewer than 10 credits and graduated in 2.5 years or less.
 
UW-River Falls Professor Ecker Honored for Sports Medicine Efforts
One of the nation’s premiere sports medicine organizations has honored a University of Wisconsin-River Falls professor for his work in the field. Kenneth Ecker, a professor in the Health and Human Performance Department and a Fellow member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), has received the 2015 Clinical Exercise Physiology Professional Achievement Award from the Midwest American College of Sports Medicine (MWACSM) for his efforts throughout the year.
