Art Students Present Senior Exhibitions

March 4, 2011—Several art majors are set to present their senior exhibitions in Gallery 101 of the Kleinpell Fine Arts building at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls March 23-30. Works on display include glass, ceramics, sculpture, paintings, drawings and handmade felt wall hangings.  A reception for the exhibit will be held March 25 from 4-7 p.m. in the gallery.

Rebecca Hansen from Forest Lake, Minn., will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science in broad area art. She will be displaying paintings, charcoal drawings, photographs and handmade felt wall pieces. Her works generally contain a bright and bold color palette. Hansen likes to focus on two-dimensional works containing whimsical, often comical, subject matter.

“The things I create are the quickest escape I’ve found from seriousness,” says Hansen.

Katie Skerven from Wisconsin Rapids will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in ceramics. Her collection of utilitarian pieces and organic sculptures is inspired by flowers and she has created many intricate and detailed forms.  She uses repetition and visual texture to create sculptures that are sensual, reminiscent of the beauty of the natural world.

Laremy Ellsworth from Dover, Minn., will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in glass blowing. He will be displaying a collection of glass and pottery in this exhibition. Most of his work focuses on combining ceramics with glass.

“I have always been interested in working with my hands and making three-dimensional art,” notes Ellsworth.

This event is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday-Friday, as well as 2-4 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call the UWRF Art Department at 715-425-3266.
