Travis is Department Chair for Psychology and an industrial/organizational (I/O) psychologist who teaches General Psychology, Psychological Measurement, Research Methods, and a variety of I/O psychology courses.

He is an active researcher, conducting collaborative research with students and publishing regularly. Travis has presented invited addresses at such locations as the Minnesota Science Museum and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Travis also provides I/O consulting services to public-sector and private-sector organizations.

In 2017, Travis received the Exemplary Teaching Award from the UWRF Student Senate. He was the 2016 recipient of the UWRF College of Arts and Sciences Award for Outstanding Research. In 2013, he received the Paul B. and Robert Dykstra Faculty Excellence Award, the UWRF College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Adviser Award, and the Larry Testa Partnership Award for contributions to UWRF Residence Life. In previous years, Travis has been honored as the UWRF Outstanding Adviser (2009), a Compass Award winner for contributions to first-year students (2009), the UWRF Distinguished Teacher (2008), a UWRF College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teacher (2008), Outstanding Mentor for the UWRF McNair Scholars Program (2006), and an Outstanding Scholar in the UWRF College of Arts and Sciences (2005).
