Animal Science - Vet Tech Degree

Program Overview

The animal science - veterinary technology program is a five-year program for students interested in working with animals in the veterinary healthcare field but do not necessarily want to become a veterinarian. By spending three years at UWRF for animal science and two years in the veterinary technology program at the Madison Area Technical College (or another accredited veterinary technician program), students will earn both a Bachelor of Science and an Associate of Applied Science degree. Graduates will be eligible to take the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE), become a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) and join a veterinary healthcare team.

Highlights of the Animal Science - Veterinary Technology Major

  • Gain knowledge in animal anatomy and physiology, nutrition, genetics, health and diseases, reproduction, behavior, welfare and associated sciences.
  • Gain experience and hands-on training as a veterinary technician at a nationally accredited campus such as Madison Area Technical College.

  • Apply science-based knowledge to a broad spectrum of animal species, including dogs, cats and farm animals.
  • Understand the biology, care, management and health of animals.
