Agricultural Engineering Technology

Program Overview

The Agricultural Engineering Technology major gives students skills in applied science and engineering in the areas of power and machinery, structures, environment, soil and water, food and processing engineering and electronics and information systems. Courses emphasize a “minds-on hands-on” approach and include laboratory and practicum sessions that teach students to use diagnostic equipment, measurement devices, computer software and more. Our professors have more than 22 years of combined industry experience, which keeps the Agricultural Engineering Technology program industry relevant.

Students in this major can choose one of the following options:

  • Agricultural Engineering Technology option: Students create their own plan of study within the major.

  • Environmental Engineering Technology option: Includes courses in chemistry, biology and environmental sciences and focuses on solving environmental problems.

  • Mechanized Systems Management option: This option includes courses to help student supplement their engineering technology skills with a focused agricultural business expertise.

Highlights of the Agricultural Engineering Technology Major

  • Case-IH provides new agricultural equipment and precision agriculture technologies for students and faculty to use in the classroom and at the UWRF laboratory farms.
  • Team-based learning has been incorporated into most courses allowing students with different backgrounds and skills to collaborate, resulting in more innovative solutions and enhanced learning.
  • The Agricultural Engineering Technology student will be involved with undergraduate research from their freshman year.
  • The College has a strong internship program, through which many students have received job offers upon graduation following their internship experience.
  • Agricultural Engineering Technology students have participated in the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) International Quarter Scale Tractor Design Competition for more than 15 years.
  • Our professors hold engineering degrees in four different areas:  agricultural engineering, bioprocess engineering, civil engineering, and mechanical engineering.
  • Contribute to meaningful undergraduate research projects, like design and fabrication of an equine arena drag, or a rain garden, or a hops thresher, or a biodiesel production system.
