Trees and River (Banner)

The State of the Valley website was created in 2011-12 and is a collaborative project funded by the Hugh J. Andersen Foundation, Andersen Corporate Foundation, Otto Bremer Foundation, Bremer Bank, St. Croix Valley Foundation, United Way St. Croix Valley and United Way of Washington County - East.

The project is a follow-up to St. Croix Valley Lay of the Land Report and Survey of Residents created in 2001 following the 2000 Census.

Socio-economic Indicators

The State of the Valley website presents socio-economic indicators for Chisago County and Washington County in eastern Minnesota and Pierce County, Burnett County, Polk County, and St. Croix County in western Wisconsin, an area commonly known as the Lower St. Croix River Valley. While the St. Croix River delineates the state border between Minnesota and Wisconsin in this region, it is also the unifying feature for these five counties. Despite the many factors shaping the regional identity of the St. Croix Valley, the data presented in this website also show significant variation in terms of socio-economic well-being across these five counties.

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Survey Research Center is the data partner for the State of the Valley website. The State of the Valley website will be updated early each calendar year.
