• Manufacturing accounted for between 18% and 19% of employment in Wisconsin over the 2009 to 2022 period.
• Manufacturing is substantially more important to Polk County than other St. Croix River Valley counties; nearly one-in-four jobs in Polk County are in the manufacturing sector.
• Pierce County is the only county in which manufacturing as a percentage of total employment is lower than the state average as of 2022.

• Manufacturing has accounted for between 13% and 14% of employment in Minnesota since 2009.
• Employment in manufacturing has been slightly higher than the state average in both Chisago and Washington counties, but Washington County was comparable to the state average in 2022.

• Manufacturing is a larger part of the employment picture in Wisconsin and its counties than in Minnesota and its counties.
• As noted above, manufacturing is a particularly important source of jobs in Polk County.
