Family Orientation

Home Away From Home

Living in the residence halls is a new experience for nearly every student. Living in a shared community with new people, taking responsibility for the upkeep of their room, and navigating a new environment can be challenging for many students. However, there are many resources and amenities for studens to enjoy while living on campus.

Our halls are staffed 24/7 by a professional live-in Hall Director who oversees the hall, as well as Resident Assistants (or RAs, as many students refer to them). Resident Assistants are peer leaders housed on each floor to help mentor students and guide them through the college experience. Students can look to their Resident Assistants and Hall Directors for help when they have issues on campus. These staff members can help facilitate conversations around living in a new community, navigating the college experience, and getting connected to valuable campus resources.

Student safety is important to Residence Life. Custodians provide a valuable service by cleaning common areas of the residence halls regularly, and all residence halls are locked. Residents have access to their hall with their student ID. Amenities within all of the halls include a loftable bed, closet & desk, MicroFridge, WiFi, digital cable, HBO GO, and free laundry. Students can pick up letters at their mailbox within their halls. However, packages are all delivered to our central Hathorn Mail Center in Hathorn Hall.

Be sure to follow emails and campus communications regarding New Student Move-In, happening before classes begin. If you have any questions, reach out to the Department of Residence Life at reslife@uwrf.edu.

Transfer Program

The Transfer Meal Program allows meal plan participants to use a meal in retail dining areas outside of Riverside Commons. A cash equivalency is applied to any purchase made with a transfer meal. This is a discounted rate to what students would pay if using cash. If the purchase exceeds the cash equivalency rate that each "transfer meal" equals, the difference left over for a student's purchase can be paid with cash, Dining Dollars, Falcon Dollars, or credit card.

Dining Dollars

Dining Dollars are placed in a debit account for each meal plan (except the 60 Block Plan) participant. Students are allowed to use Dining Dollars for the purchase of food and beverages at any dining venue in the University Center. Purchases made with Dining Dollars are exempt from sales tax. Dining Dollars cannot be purchased independently, taken as cash, or transferred to others. Dining Dollars remaining at the end of Fall semester will roll over to the Spring semester IF the student has an active Spring semester meal plan. All Dining Dollars must be used by the end of the Spring semester, they do not carry-over to the next academic year.

Dietary and Other Needs

There are two allergen-friendly stations in Riverside Commons; the G8 station and the Avoiding Gluten station. For lunch and dinner the G8 station features a hot protein, vegetable, starch, and rice. The Avoiding Gluten station provides items such as bread, hot dog buns, tortillas, cereals, and waffles made without gluten-containing ingredients.

The Chartwells staff take serving students with food allergies very seriously and receive regular training on the best processes for safely handling food allergens. Campus also has a registered dietician for students to contact and schedule an appointment regarding eating healthy on campus with special diets, food allergies, or intolerances.

If you have any questions regarding meal plans or dining on campus, please contact Dining Services at diningservices@uwrf.edu.
