Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I apply to the UWRF ELT Program?

You should contact the International Admissions office.  They will be able to assist you with the application process.

  2. When are applications due for the ELT Program?

Preferred applications dates are August 1 for the Fall semester and December 1 for the Spring semester. This will allow time for getting a visa.

  3. How long will I be in the ELT Program?

The length of time you study in the ELT program depends on your level of English competence and your willingness to study hard.  Some students take only one semester in the ELT program, and other students spend several semesters as full-time ELT students followed by a transition semester.

  4.  Can I take other University classes while in the ELT Program?

The answer to this question depends on your placement in the ELT Program.  Students at the intermediate, and advanced levels take classes in the ELT program full-time and do not take other UWRF classes.  Students in the transition level are allowed to take other UWRF courses as decided upon with their advisors.

  5.  Do I receive University credit for ELT classes?

You will receive credit for ELT courses, and these grades will be on your UWRF transcript and affect your grade point average.  However, some ELT courses do not count toward graduation requirements at UWRF.

  6. Will I need to take the TOEFL or IELTS again?

Once you successfully complete the ELT Program, you will not have to submit another test score to begin general UWRF classes.
