Jump Start offers different pathways to facilitate meaningful connections. Check out the different pathways we have and sign up today!

Disability Resource Center

  • The Disability Resource Center pathway of the Jump Start Program is designed specifically for students who identify as having a disability.  This pathway helps first-year students get connected to the disability community at UWRF.
  • Participants are given the opportunity to engage with their fellow peers to learn more about disability identity, pride, and disability culture on the River Falls campus.
  • We provide you with an opportunity to start building your connection with peer mentors, current students, the Disability Resource Center Staff, and our DRC Champions.
  • Participants will learn about how to use academic accommodations at the college level, navigate the transition process, and access college resources.
  • Students participating in this program are required to be registered for academic accommodations through the Disability Resource Center.
  • We invite you to start the process and learn more about the basic eligibility requirements by checking out our website and filling out our new student application!

Student Support Services

  • The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is designed for students who may be eligible for the TRIO SSS program: first-generation, students from limited income families, and students with documented disabilities.
  • During Jump Start, students in the SSS pathway will get to meet other new students, learn about how SSS supports students to maximize their college experience, and engage with faculty champions to build academic successs skills.
  • Participants will get to know TRIO SSS academic coaches who support SSS scholars throughout their entire time at UWRF.
  • Participants get to meet Peer Mentors who support a strong transition to UWRF and offer community engagement throughout the year

My First Step

  • The My First Step (MFS) pathway of Jump Start is hosted by the Student Success Center. It is designed for any new student who is interested in connecting with other new students, meet an upper-class peer mentor, and engage with faculty champions.
  • Participants will have a better grasp of resources throughout UWRF
  • Participants will get to know others with similar majors, and connect one-on-one with your assigned Peer Mentor.

Aspire

  • The Aspire pathway is designed for new students who identify as an individual from an underrepresented background, a Pell Grant recipient, or a first-generation student;
  • Engage in opportunities to connect with the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging and explore different student identity organizations;
  • Learn valuable skills that will equip you with the knowledge and tools to navigate college successfully;
  • Complete the Aspire pathway and gain eligibility for a year-long mentoring program, guided by upper-class students, providing support throughout the school year.
