Falcon Center at UW-River Falls officially opens to public
September 21, 2017--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls opened the $63.5 million Falcon Center for Health, Education and Wellness to the public on Thursday. At an afternoon ribbon cutting, local officials and university dignitaries celebrated an accomplishment many years in the making, and one which will have a profound future impact on the campus educational experience.
 
Falcon Center offers fitness and rec opportunities for all, not just athletes
September 25, 2017-- Nearly 2,600 graduate and undergraduate students have used the Falcon Center at least one time since Sept. 1. To some students, the facility may seem intimidating or like it only benefits student-athletes, but full-time students pay a total of $162.39 in segregated fees each semester towards Falcon Center Operations and Falcon Center debt service.
 
Falcons volleyball breaks in new arena with a surprise win streak
September 25, 2017-- With a brand-new arena and strong core of young players, the UWRF volleyball team has quickly set themselves as a force to contend with in the WIAC. The Falcons started the season 12-1, with their only loss coming to Carleton College in four sets. The team now sits at 14-5 and is comprised of only two seniors and no juniors. The eight sophomores and seven freshman make up the youngest squad in the WIAC.
 
George, UW-River Falls football team to hold donation drive for U.S. Virgin Islands
September 18, 2017-- Ugel George is a sophomore defensive lineman for the University of Wisconsin-River Falls football team. The Falcons are three weeks into their playing schedule, but it would be easy to excuse George for not having his thoughts fully on football in recent days.

Kinni Corridor Project reaches midsteam point, seeking public input
September 25, 2017-- The sound of children laughing was distantly audible over the roar of the Kinnickinnic River as the water rushed over the upper dam near River Falls’ Glen Park. Near the base of the dam, a group of younger kids that had stayed behind sat with their parents while the older kids wandered up the South Fork of the Kinni towards the Swinging Bridge.
 
McNair Scholars Program grant renewed at UW-River Falls
September 25, 2017-- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls has received a renewal of grant funding for its McNair Scholars Program. The U.S. Department of Education granted UWRF over $1.1 million, which will fund the program for five years.
 
New incubator for ag innovation opens in River Falls
September 27, 2017--The WinField® United Innovation Center — a new epicenter of research that will help give farmers more and better tools to grow crops more sustainably — opened today in River Falls. The 55,000-square-foot facility replaces the 6,000 square-foot WinField Product Development Center and Spray Analysis System.

September 18, 2017--Miranda Haack is an elementary education major in her junior year at UW-River Falls, and she said that she carries a whistle at all times and often travels with others who carry pepper spray.

Penterman of Hollands Dairy is Ann Lydecker Lecture Series speaker
September 28, 2017-- “Markieke Penterman: Farmer’s Daughter, Immigrant, Award-winning Cheesemaker” will be presented by Marieke Penterman of Hollands Dairy in Thorp on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 5-6 p.m. in North Hall auditorium at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The event, part of the Ann Lydecker Lecture Series, is free and open to the public.
 
Rausch honored with Wurtz Award for Teaching Excellence
September 12, 2017-- Beth Rausch has been named the recipient of the 2017 Keith Wurtz Award for Teaching Excellence for junior faculty at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Rausch, an assistant professor of animal science, joined the UW-River Falls faculty in 2015 and is the lead person for the animal science - companion animal emphasis courses and activities.
 
River Falls police say pay-up calls ‘from’ RFPD are a scam
September 18, 2017--If you get a call from what seems to be the River Falls Police Department and the caller asks you to pay a fine, you’re being scammed, a RFPD investigator says. On one day alone last week, six UWRF students complained to police about the phone scam, joining a long list of River Falls complainants.
 
Schedule announced for Falcon Center grand opening
September 14, 2017-- The grand opening of the Falcon Center for Health, Education and Wellness, the largest building project in the 143-year history of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, is set for Thursday, Sept. 21. University officials released details of the opening Thursday.
 
Stokes honored as MNSHAPE Physical Education Teacher of the Year
September 26, 2017--University of Wisconsin-River Falls graduate Mandy Stokes has been honored as the Minnesota Society of Health and Physical Educators (MNSHAPE) Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year for 2017.

September 28, 2017-- A Twin Cities investigative reporter who has covered hot-button issues such as immigration and sex trafficking will be the featured speaker for this semester’s communication and media seminar at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
 
UWRF football doubling down on recruits from Las Vegas and Arizona
September 18, 2017--This year’s UWRF football team includes nine players from the Las Vegas area and two more from Arizona among its 46 freshmen and 120-man roster overall. Coupled with renewed emphasis on recruiting the best high school players from western Wisconsin, this is “the most talented group I’ve ever had,” seventh-year head coach Matt Walker said.
 
UW-River Falls Dairy Farm Safety Symposium to be held at World Dairy Expo Oct. 5
Sept. 21, 2017--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Center for Dairy Farm Safety will conduct the third annual Dairy Farm Safety Symposium at the World Dairy Expo in Madison on Oct. 5. The symposium is a series of workshops addressing topics related to dairy farm safety.
 
UW-River Falls makes Sierra Club’s ‘Cool Schools’ list
September 21, 2017 -- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls has been named to the Sierra Club’s 2017 list of “Cool Schools.” The “Cool Schools” ranking serves as a guide for prospective students to compare schools’ commitment to sustainability. The 2017 rankings reflect sustainability activities through June 2016.
 
UW-River Falls named 2018 U.S. News & World Report Best Regional University
September 12, 2017-- U.S. News & World Report has once again named the University of Wisconsin-River Falls a Best Regional University-Midwest. The newest ranking appears in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 edition of Best Colleges, released Tuesday.
 
UW-River Falls offers Montessori Education workshop
September 11, 2017-- Educators and parents will explore the benefits of practical life experiences in developing character and culture in young children by attending a one-day workshop Friday, Nov. 10.
 
UW-River Falls to open Falcon Center on Sept. 21
September 7, 2017-- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls will officially unveil the Falcon Center for Health, Education and Wellness, the largest building project in university history, at a grand opening celebration set for Sept. 21. The new facility helps address classroom capacity, allows the campus to better integrate technology into curriculum, and expands research opportunities.
 
UW-River Falls welcomes largest freshman class since 2009
September 22, 2017-- This month the University of Wisconsin-River Falls welcomed 1,325 freshmen, making the freshman class the largest since 2009. New student enrollment, including transfer students, is at 1,748. Official overall student enrollment numbers will not be available until November.
 
Workshop at UW-River Falls develops leaders for area businesses
September 5, 2017--Business owners struggling with the need to attract staff as supervisors and managers will benefit from a workshop offered by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Wednesday, Oct. 4. Employers will learn to build leaders within their current staff, saving time and money in employee recruitment and retaining their outstanding employees.
 
Zlesak is UW-River Falls 2017 Distinguished Teacher of the Year
September 18, 2017-- Associate professor of Horticulture David Zlesak has been named the 2017 recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The Distinguished Teacher award is the most prestigious honor bestowed at UW-River Falls. Nominations are submitted by senior level students and recent graduates.
