UW-River Falls offers Montessori Education Workshop

Sept. 11, 2017-- Educators and parents will explore the benefits of practical life experiences in developing character and culture in young children by attending a one-day workshop Friday, Nov. 10.

UW-River Falls will offer this workshop sponsored by the Montessori Teacher Education program from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Regional Development Institute on campus.

“People often wonder why children in Montessori schools do things like cutting pickles, washing tables, using a wrench and screwdriver, walking on a line and making bubbles,” said Linda Jacobson, program manager for the UWRF Montessori Teacher Education program. “Our presenter, Crystal Dahlmeier, will explore the vital importance these practical life activities play in a child’s development from early childhood through adolescence.”

This interactive workshop will provide teachers and parents with both theoretical and practical aspects that one can incorporate into activities at home or in the classroom.

Dahlmeier, an educator from Cincinnati, is experienced in traditional, Montessori, multi-age and special education. She has done extensive work with children, parents and teachers in conferences and workshops domestically and internationally.

Advance registration is required and available online at go.uwrf.edu/Montessori. The fee for this interactive workshop is $79 for individuals with a $10 discount for registrations received before October 11 or $60 per individual for groups of five or more registered together. The fee includes instruction, materials and six hours of professional development approved by the American Montessori Society.

Participants who are interested in earning graduate credits with additional tuition and coursework outside of the workshop should contact Jacobson at 715-425-3190 or linda.r.jacobson@uwrf.edu.
