I often hear that users are the weakest link in the information security chain. I disagree. We need access to information to do our work. Providing access creates risk. I believe that security aware users are our best asset when it comes to protecting the data we are entrusted with.

January 24-28. 2022 is Data Privacy Week. This is an excellent time to consider how you are protecting the data you are entrusted with at work and how your information is being collected and used in your personal life. Take a moment to read this article to learn more about the risks associated with your personal information and what steps you can take to protect it.
 
Reviewing Your Technology Purchases
UWRF requires all software purchases to be reviewed by DoTS to ensure we are meeting UW information security policy requirements. Considering Privacy
October 21, 2021. Protecting privacy is becoming increasingly difficult as more of our life moves online. It is also more important than ever. Privacy is a complicated topic with bits and pieces scattered across various national legislative acts, tort law, and a patchwork of privacy legislation emerging through state laws and foreign concerns. But there are a few simple things you can do to keep yourself safe.
 
Have a Plan
The National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST) has a standard for responding to any incident. This is the basis for the UW-System Incident Response Policy. While this works for large systems, I find it easier to simplify this for personal use. What should you do to be ready?
