Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society

Membership in BGS is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a baccalaureate or master's program at a school accredited by AACSB International. See current members and find out more.

Dean's Lists

Academic Merit before graduation is recognized by placement on the Dean's List. Superior scholarship is recognized at the completion of fall and spring terms by publication of the Dean's List. Undergraduate (freshman-senior) degree-seeking students are eligible to receive this honor. Students must complete a minimum of 12 credits, receive a minimum of a 3.500 term grade point average, and have no grades of F, outstanding incompletes or repeat grades during the academic term.

Dean's Award for Excellence

Each year in February, SBE faculty and staff may nominate a student or small group of students for this award. The nomination must include an explanation of the meritorious action that warrants recognition. Examples (not an exhaustive list) of meritorious activities are:

Noteworthy performance on a class project or paper (above and beyond expectations)
Noteworthy service to the School or University community
Noteworthy service in the external community
Other (overcoming serious impediments, being a good role model, contributing to an ethical environment, etc.)

Note: This is not for a high GPA or a good class grade. We have other awards for that.

Merit Awards

At graduation three types of merit awards can be received --- Senior Merit, Cum Laude Merit and completion of the Honors Program. Those who qualify only after all credits have been counted will also receive honors at that point.

Senior Merit: Graduating seniors who have maintained a 3.5 GPA for their last 60 honor credits will receive Senior Merit.
Cum Laude: Graduating seniors with a minimum cumulative 3.7 GPA for their entire college career at all institutions will receive their diplomas cum laude.
Magna Cum Laude: Graduating seniors with a minimum cumulative 3.8 GPA for their entire college career at all institutions will receive their diplomas magna cum laude.
Summa Cum Laude: Graduating seniors with a minimum cumulative 3.9 GPA for their entire college career at all institutions will receive their diplomas summa cum laude.
Honors Program: Incoming freshmen must have a composite ACT score of 27 or higher and/or have graduated in the top 10 percent of their high school class. Sophomores, juniors, or seniors may enroll if their cumulative grade point average is 3.3 or higher. Students must maintain a 3.3 cumulative grade point average and complete at least two Honors program credits per year to remain in the program. The UWRF Honors program consists of 18 Honors program credits, all of which are possible to accumulate within the 120 minimum credits necessary to graduate. Requirements for completing the Honors Program include at least 18 honors program credits and no history of academic dishonesty.
