Advising Instructions

To prepare for registration advising

  1. Make an appointment with your adviser by signing up on your adviser's sign-up sheet posted near his or her door.

  2. PLEASE DO NOT CALL to make an appointment; the program assistant, student assistants, and other faculty who may answer the phone will not schedule appointments on behalf of your adviser.

  3. PLAN AHEAD with your Marketing Communications courses.

BEFORE your appointment

  • Print a copy of your DAR from eSIS. IMPORTANT: You will have to reschedule your appointment if you don't bring your DAR.

  • Highlight all the categories with MINUS SIGNS

  • Create a tentative plan for the next two, three or more semesters

  • Check the online catalog for any course prerequisites

  • Create a class schedule for next semester by checking the online class schedule and taking special note of the number of remaining seats

  • Select alternative courses for those courses with fewer than 10 remaining seats

  • Write down questions for your adviser

BRING to your appointment

  • A copy of your DAR (print prior to your appointment)

  • Your plan of action for at least the next two or more semesters (list of courses with prerequisites)

  • Your class schedule plan for next semester (courses, days and times)

  • Your questions/complaints/concerns

AFTER your appointment

  • Check the online class schedule often, especially the day before you register to make sure the classes you want are still open

  • Check back with your adviser if you incur any problems registering
