Pre-Engineering Course Requirements

As a pre-engineering (also known as pre-professional engineering) student, you would typically complete approximately two years of physics, math, engineering, and chemistry courses at UWRF. Then you would apply and transfer to an engineering university of your choice. Most students are able to earn an engineering degree in four years. 

These are generally recommended courses. Variations will exist base on your engineering discipline and which engineering university (or universities) to which you apply. Courses should be selected in collaboration with your UWRF academic advisor and by consulting the degree requirements of the particular engineering university. Below is a somewhat typical Pre-Engineering curriculum, though every student's needs are a bit different and we are committed to providing individual advising to make your progress as efficient as possible:

General Education: 15 credit hrs (descriptions included in 56 CR total)
ENGL 100 Academic Reading and Writing* 3 cr.

ENGL 200 Investigating Ideas: Reading, Writing and the Disciplines* 3 cr.
ECON 201 Principles of Microeconomics 3 cr.
ECON 202 Principles of Macroeconomics 3 cr.
COMS 101 Fundamentals of Oral Communication 3 cr.

*English Placement Test score testout possible

Pre-Engineering: 68 Total Credits (includes 12 CR electives)
Required Courses: 41 credit hrs (+ 15 general education listed above)
PHYS 131 Calculus-Based Physics I 5 cr.
PHYS 132 Calculus-Based Physics II 5 cr.
PHYS 211 Scientific Programming 3 cr.
CHEM 111 General Chemistry I 4 cr.
CHEM 116 General Chemistry Lab I 1 cr.
CHEM 112 General Chemistry II 4 cr.
CHEM 117 General Chemistry Lab II 1 cr.
MATH 166 Calculus I 4 cr.
MATH 167 Calculus II 4 cr.
MATH 256 Linear Algebra 3 cr.
MATH 268 Calculus III 4 cr.
MATH 331 Differential Equations 3 cr.
