Interested in Teaching with the Program?

Semester Abroad: Europe, established in 1963, is the oldest international program at UWRF. It places a strong emphasis on experiential learning and cultural immersion. Junior-and senior-level student participants plan URSCA-oriented projects with the assistance of a faculty project advisor and program faculty; they carry out their project plans in a European country of their choice; they live, learn, and travel independently; and they emerge from the program with a rich collection of cultural experiences and a final project paper that is often the highlight of their academic career.
Faculty involved with SA: Europe are considered to be both Group Leaders and Program Instructors. They should be available to lead groups in Europe for an entire spring semester, as well as to hold orientation meetings throughout the preceding fall semester. Faculty will also be teaching courses in the Experience Scotland program during their time in Europe.  As Program Instructors they assist with the program year round, including off years when not leading a group. For example, when the Group Leader is in Europe in the spring, the other Program Instructors work as a collaborative team to maintain publicity for the program, participate in Education Abroad Fairs, hold informational meetings, etc. Program Instructors also advise students who are interested in participating in the program.

Opportunities also exist for faculty to serve as project advisors. The main tasks of project advisors are: providing guidance to students as they develop their project proposals in the spring; acting as long-distance resources (typically via email) as students have questions while in Europe; and reviewing and evaluating the final project papers. Serving as a project advisor is a rewarding experience and a valuable contribution to the University’s mission of creating globally-engaged students and faculty.
