6th Annual Nilsestuen Legacy Event addresses leadership in uncertain ag economy
The 6th annual Rod Nilsestuen Legacy Event will address "Leadership in an Uncertain Agricultural Economy" presented by Douglas Wilson, CEO of Cooperative Resources International (CRI) on Monday, March 27, at 2 p.m. in the Kinnickinnic Theater in the University Center at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The event is free and open to the public.
 
Bowls for Hope raises $6,000 for Moola for Milk Program
The eighth annual Bowls for Hope event held March 7at UW-River Falls raised $6,000for the Hunger Prevention Council of Pierce County-Moola for Milk Program. Each year UWRF works with the community to raise funds through Bowls for Hope for a worthy organization that makes a difference in the St. Croix Valley.
 
Campus impact drives global work for UW-River Falls professor
Working amongst legume farmers in Africa, Paige Miller is half a world away from Wisconsin. Despite the distance, Miller’s work on another continent is providing her with a wealth of experience that will influence her teaching at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
 
Chancellor Van Galen named to Ideadvance Investment Committee
University of Wisconsin-River Falls Chancellor Dean Van Galen has been named to the Ideadvance Investment Committee as the UW Chancellor member to the committee. The Ideadvance program supports University of Wisconsin System innovation towards commercialization and combines grant funding with business mentoring to support development of innovative ideas and potential, scalable business from UW System faculty, staff and student entrepreneurs. Grants are available to support applicants, including alumni, for all UW campuses except UW-Madison.

A few years ago I was interviewed by a student reporter and was asked the question: “What is your favorite part of being a chancellor?” For me, interacting with students and seeing the impact our faculty and staff have on students’ lives is immensely enjoyable, and probably most rewarding.
 
Jocelyn Hagen is 51st commissioned composer at UW-River Falls
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls is celebrating the 51st year of the Commissioned Composer Project by hosting Twin Cities based composer Jocelyn Hagen for a three-day residency March 21-23. The 51st Anniversary Concert is Thursday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building. The public is invited to attend this free concert.

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Art Department is hosting its annual Juried Student Exhibition April 19-May 3 in Gallery 101 in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building.
 
Pulitzer Prize winning author/historian to speak at UW-River Falls
Award-winning author Elizabeth Fenn headlines a series of events March 28-30 hosted by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls as part of the Walker D. and Helen Bryant Wyman Visiting Professorship in History. Fenn will present two free public lectures and a discussion as part of the event.
 
Team VetNex wins Innovation Challenge
MBA students David and Jennifer Till won the Third Annual Innovation Challenge March 2 at UW-River Falls. Their idea, VetNex, is a software that aids in veteran's disability claims processing. Three teams competed for the prize of $6,000 and the chance to go on to the Wisconsin Big Idea Tournament on April 22 with the opportunity to win up to $27,000.
 
UW-River Falls BFA Students Exhibit Their Work
Seniors Jen Angell, Emily Cameron, Taylor Foreman, Hannah Kane, Madeline Larson, Lauren Olson, Zoey Strain, and Laura Vogel will be presenting their Bachelor of Fine Arts thesis work in Gallery 101 in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building March 22-31. On display will be ceramics, drawings, graphic art, glass, fibers, and photography.
 
UW-River Falls equestrian team members advance in IHSA competition
Following competitions over the weekend, one University of Wisconsin-River Falls western equestrian team member qualified for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships in May while she and four other team members earned the right to compete at the IHSA semi-finals March 24-25.
 
UW-River Falls offering two workshops in April for Montessori educators
Educators in public or private Montessori schools can gain professional knowledge and skills in two new workshops offered by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Both workshops are on Friday, April 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the River Falls Public Library.
 
UW-River Falls student newspaper wins awards
The Student Voice, the student-run weekly newspaper serving the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, has earned four awards in the 2016 Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the Wisconsin College Media Association. Results of the contest were announced Feb. 24 during the Wisconsin Newspaper Association's annual convention in Middleton.
 
UW-River Falls to host 57th Annual Agricultural Technology Contest
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls expects nearly 1,000 students to complete when they host the 57th Annual Agricultural Technology Contest on April 1. The contest includes a series of career development events hosted by the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) that allows Wisconsin and Minnesota FFA members to showcase their knowledge.
 
UW-River Falls to host open house for St. Croix Valley Bull Test March 25
St. Croix Valley Bull Test and the UWRF Student Beef Management Team will host the annual bull test open house on Saturday, March 25, at the Dairy Learning Center on the Mann Valley Farm, 129 South Glover Road, River Falls. The event is free. A beef lunch will be offered by the UW-River Falls Student Beef Management Team for $6/person.
