Certification Portfolio Elements

The certification portfolio will include the following elements:

Gate 1

Each of the Ten Wisconsin Educator Standards for Teachers is embedded within course work, as indicated on the standards-based matrix for each Program. There will be at least one artifact and reflection for each of the 10 Standards. Each reflection should explain in detail how the artifact demonstrates an understanding of the Standard it addresses (See Expectations on Writing Reflections). All artifacts and reflections will be reviewed and approved by the faculty member(s) teaching the course in which that standard is embedded.  Successful completion of the ten Wisconsin Educator Standards for Teacherslink (Gate 1) is required before progressing to student teaching/ Communicative Disorders Practicum.

Gate 2

The Gate 2 review will consist of successful completion of two portfolio components during student teaching or Communicative Disorders Practicum:

1.) Artifact(s) documenting events and reflection covering at least FOUR Wisconsin Educator Standards for Teachers. Each program has identified two required standards (Gate 2 Standards). The other two will be selected by working with the cooperating teacher(s) and university supervisor(s).

2.) Student Teaching Evaluation Rubric completed by the cooperating teacher(s).

The Gate 2 review is a required component of student teaching / Communicative Disorders Practicum and teacher certification.

Assessment

Both Gate 1 and Gate 2 reviews will utilize three level rubrics for each standard:

  • Exceeds expectations
  • Meets expectations
  • Does not meet expectations

To pass Gate 1 the teacher candidate will need to meet or exceed expectations in all ten standards. Students must successfully complete the standard(s) connected with each course listed on the Standards Based Matrix for their program in order to receive a final grade.

To pass Gate 2 the teacher candidate will need to meet or exceed expectations in the standards selected for their program (Gate 2 Standards). In addition, the student teaching evaluation rubric will need to be successfully completed by the cooperating teacher and included within the portfolio.
