University Sponsored Activities-Intercollegiate Athletics

Due to COVID-19, most off-campus activities will generally not be approved. Limited exceptions may be considered for activities such as class trips (field trips or field work) that do not involve leaving our immediate vicinity, e.g. not interacting with other institutions and entities, and/or activities that can be conducted with sufficient safety mitigations in place.

The university supports student participation in intercollegiate athletics.  While the goal of both the University, in general, and the Athletic Department, in particular, is to avoid or minimize the potential that student athletes might miss classes, it is understood that team activities might occasionally overlap with classes.  When such occasions arise, the following process must be followed:

1. For games that conflict with a class, coaches must provide students with a class absence notification form, approved by the Provost's Office, that includes a clear identification of the team that will be traveling, the destination, the departure and return dates and times, contact information for the coach(es), and a listing of student athletes who are participating.

2. This class absence notification form must be provided by the coach to the student, who must deliver it to the faculty member(s) whose course(s) are affected.
