1098-T Tax Information

Your 2018 Form 1098-T will be mailed by January 31, 2019 to your home address as listed in your eSIS account. You can confirm your home address is correct by logging into eSIS and scrolling down to the Personal Information section of your Student Center page.  If it has changed, please email from your UWRF email address by January 25, 2019 with your new home address or call the UW-River Falls Student Billing office at 715-425-3145.

Prior year 1098-Ts are available online by logging into Get My Document.

In previous years, your 1098-T included a figure in Box 2 that represented the qualified tuition and related expenses (QTRE) we billied to your student account for the calendar (tax) year. Due to a change to federal reporting requirements, beginning with tax year 2018, we will report in Box 1 the amount of QTRE you paid during the calendar year.

Depending on your income (or your family's income, if you are a dependent), whether you were considered full or half-time enrolled, and the amount of your qualified educational expenses for the year, you may be eligible for a federal educational tax credit. You can find detailed information about claiming educational tax credits in the IRS Publication 970 Tax Benefits for Education.

The dollar amounts reported on your Form 1098-T may assist you in completing IRS Form 8863 Education Credits. This is the form used for calculating the educational tax credits that a taxpayer may claim as part of your tax return.

UW-River Falls is unable to provide you with individual tax advice, but should you have questions, you should seek the counsel of an informed tax preparer or adviser.
