What is the Falcon Scholars Program?

A campus legacy since 2012, the Falcon Scholars program was established by our alumni Arlin and Marilyn Albrecht through the Albrecht Challenge as a matching fund as part of the Rising to Distinction campaign.

The Falcon Scholars scholarship program brings with it the ability to enrich learning for UWRF students, to raise the academic standards among undergraduates; and to support engagement and excellence among faculty and staff.

Falcon Scholars have access to the Chancellor's Scholars, Honors Program, and Falcon Scholars interaction space in 231 David Rodli Hall open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. This space provides you with comfortable furniture, tables, enourmous beanbag seating, student computers, and an overall inviting atmosphere where you can relax, study, plan and enjoy the company of other Falcon Scholars. A small fridge, microwave, and hot water kettle available for student use with tea and cocoa always available makes the space especially welcoming. Stop by and check it out!

Upon admission, incoming freshmen who have a record of academic success may apply to become a Falcon Scholar through a rigorous application process. Qualifying students who continue to maintain a 2.75 GPA will be offered renewable, four-year scholarship support ($1,000/year; $4,000 total), funded by donors. Falcon Scholars attending full-time and in good standing are also eligible to receive a $2,000 stipend in their junior or senior year to help support international study abroad and/or participation in undergraduate research, scholarly or creative activity. These stipends are paid by the differential tuition budget.

Students, especially first-generation students, benefit in multiple ways. First, this initiative makes unique educational opportunities available to many more students across a range of academic colleges and disciplines. Second, it reduces the need to pursue off-campus jobs, thereby amplifying academic focus. Third, expanded opportunities come while keeping UWRF affordable.
