Ecological Restoration Institute opens in CAFES October 28, 2020 – A cutting edge Ecological Restoration Institute has opened in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The mission of the institute, part of the Plant and Earth Science Department, is to enhance student skills in natural resource management through hands-on trainings/certifications, as well as teaching and work experiences associated with restoration projects.
Magara Maeda receives national teaching award October 29, 2020 - The Board of Directors of the American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ) has announced that Senior Lecturer Magara Maeda has been selected as the recipient of AATJ’s 2020 Teacher Award in the college category. Maeda teaches Japanese at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and for the UW System Collaborative Language Program.
Math professor leading academic standards review initiative October 13, 2020 – University of Wisconsin-River Falls mathematics Professor Erick Hofacker is helping to raise the bar in the instruction of math in Wisconsin public schools. By request of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Hofacker is leading an initiative that involves opening up content standards for mathematics.
Music major receives Wisconsin Music Educators Association award October 23, 2020 - The Wisconsin Music Educators Association (WMEA) has announced that University of Wisconsin-River Falls music education-choral major Marissa Altendorfer, of Clear Lake, is the recipient of the 2020 WMEA Richard G. Gaarder Award.
UW-River Falls prepares to lift shelter-in-place October 1, 2020 – The University of Wisconsin-River Falls has announced it will be increasing its health and safety measures while taking a gradual approach to resuming face-to-face classes as it nears the end of its two-week shelter-in-place and temporary transition to all online learning. UWRF announced that guidance on Sept. 18 after seeing a spike in positive COVID-19 cases.
Vogel named 2020 Distinguished Teacher October 26, 2020 – Animal Science Associate Professor Kurt Vogel has been named the Distinguished Teacher of the Year at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The award was established 55 years ago and is the highest honor a faculty member can receive on campus. Each year nominations are sought from current seniors and recent graduates.
