Falcon Scholars / Albrecht Challenge

Falcon Scholars

Falcon Scholars is an opportunity for alumni and friends of UW-River Falls to provide scholarship support to deserving UW-River Falls students. Upon admission to UW-River Falls, selected students are awarded a four-year $1,000 per year Falcon Scholars scholarship. Selection of Falcon Scholars are based on a variety of factors including extracurricular involvement, academic achievement, and leadership potential as determined by the Falcon Scholars Program Scholarship Committee.

Each Falcon Scholar will also receive a $2,000 stipend, funded through student differential tuition, to be used for either a study abroad experience or participation in undergraduate research activities.

Your participation in the Falcon Scholars Challenge will significantly enhance students' educational experience, increase retention rates, and enhance opportunities for success after college.

Albrecht Challenge

UW-River Falls alumni Arlin ('58) and Marilyn ('56) Albrecht have issued a challenge to fellow alumni and friends to provide more scholarships for students at UW-River Falls.

Through the Albrecht Challenge, gifts of $1,000 or more to the newly established Falcon Scholars program will be matched by the Albrechts.

About the Albrechts

Like many current UWRF students, Arlin and Marilyn Albrecht came to River Falls as first generation college students.

While a journalism and economics double major, Arlin was named editor of the student newspaper, the Student Voice, during his sophomore year. Upon graduation, he went to work for the River Falls Journal, then the St. Paul Pioneer Press and eventually the Red Wing Republican Eagle. In time, he became chairman and CEO of Red Wing Publishing, which under his and his wife's leadership grew to include 21 community newspapers in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Arlin was named UW-River Falls Distinguished Alumnus in 2010.

Marilyn, a speech/theatre major, was active in theatre activities in Red Wing including the restoration of the municipal Sheldon Theatre. When she entered UWRF in 1954, she received the university's first-ever scholarship.
