Target is a leading retail store carrying everything from groceries, clothing, home décor, and electronics. A Fortune 500 company, Target employs thousands of people across the country. From its headquarters located in Minneapolis to its hundreds of stores, many aspects of the business are necessary to keep this business successful.

I originally heard about the internship during an Intern Information Panel put on by CBE. The following semester I applied and after two interviews I got the job! It was very exciting to know I was getting the opportunity to work for a large company with the possibility of a full-time job offer after the 10-week summer internship.

As a Target Intern, my role was to shadow different leaders throughout Target to experience hands on what leaders at Target do and how they work towards meeting and exceeding business goals. Throughout 10 weeks, I was able to rotate and work with leaders in many different departments including Human Resources, Asset Protection, Grocery, and more! My capstone project was to walk leaders throughout a Target store and speak to the business and how Target is leveraging its strategies to continue paving the way for retail stores.

My goals were to discover my personal leadership style and determine if a large company was right for me. I was able to work with many different leaders with different leadership styles and therefore decide what traits I want to emulate as a future leader. I loved the large company culture as you quickly see it feels much smaller the more connections you make.

This experience confirmed my career choice and degree in Management. I loved being apart of leading teams and implementing strategies while sharing my ideas. I am so thankful for this opportunity and am excited to start my full-time career as an Executive Team Lead this summer.

My advice to students seeking internships would be to network and to start applying early. I was hired 8 months in advance! Go to intern panels and events put on by the school, you only have connections to gain and you never know which connection will be the one that helps you land an internship.
