Last Sunday the Super Bowl LII 2018 took place in Minneapolis. What an awesome event!

The New England Patriots faced the Philadelphia Eagles in the brand-new US Bank Stadium and up to 1 million people were expected to visit the cities. Minnesotans have been waiting for this event for months and people didn´t talk about any other sports or events in quite a while.

Not knowing what to expect we hit the road on early Sunday to visit Minneapolis as well even though tickets for the game were way too expensive for us. We didn´t want to miss this exciting event and so we just planned to have a good time in the city and go to a crowded sports bar and have some drinks and chicken wings. And what can I say, the plan worked out: After checking out different locations in Dinkytown, the very cool part of the city that is home to a lot of the University of Minnesota students, and some Downtown locations we decided to stay in a nice little sports bar that was more or less wall-to-wall with the stadium. Fortunately, we were pretty early (about two hours before the game started) and so we got the last remaining seats in the bar. Before we went to the bars we passed the stadium and enjoyed the special atmosphere in the city. Fans and music every on that sunny Sunday and I have never seen the city that crowded – by far.

People in the bar used the remaining two hours before the game mostly to get in a solid amount of drinks to prepare for the game and when the game finally started the atmosphere in the old-school bar was magic. Everyone in there was looking up to the TVs, singing fan chants or the national hymn and you could tell that everyone just had a good time. Even though the Minnesota Vikings didn´t make it to the Super Bowl in their hometown a lot of fans wearing Vikings shirts came to cheer for the other teams.

The game itself couldn´t have been more exciting as the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles fought for the win till the very end. Even though a lot of people expected Tom Brady´s Patriots to win the Eagles finally defeated the Patriots with a 41:33 win after almost 4 hours. The Eagles fans in the bar went crazy and probably celebrated till the break of dawn. It was a very special event and I am glad we made it to Minneapolis on that occasion even though it was freezing cold outside!
