Last weekend I went to the International Motorcycle Show in Minneapolis which is the world´s largest consumer motorcycle show tour.

I am really into motorcycles and miss riding my bike back home and so I made my way to that fair to at least be near some motorcycles. The fair was huge and great. A lot of new models were displayed and even if it only was sitting on motorcycles and not riding it was a great feeling to be back on a bike! As this show took place in the U.S. there had to be a spectacular thing about it and of course there was one. Of course, they had an indoor stunt show and those riders did backflips and all other different kinds of fancy tricks. It was pretty cool!

Besides those things there is not that much going on on campus these days as most of the students are busy with the preparation of their finals and papers. For me it is kind of relaxed as I don´t have as many assignments as I would have in Germany and most of the assignments I do have are papers or take-home exams. There is a big difference between the American way of studying and the German way. Students here don’t seem to be as exhausted as German students definitely are from time to time. The end of studying is always near as students don’t have to prepare a quiz or paper for 6-8 weeks as it is usual in Germany but rather for a couple of days or hours. I have thought about which way is the better or more effective way of studying when it comes to the overall results a lot and I am still not sure. There is absolutely no right or wrong, and I think the combination of both, mostly theoretical studies back home in Germany and the hands-on experience in the U.S., is pretty much the best way to do it. You are able to see different approaches to specific topics and a lot of topics you have been reading about back home in Germany are deepened here in a hands-on way with a lot of practical experience. So far, I am really glad that I made the decision to come here and I think the benefits of being a degree-seeking student in a foreign country are priceless.
