Yesterday I went to the first ice hockey game in my life and I loved it! The sport is so fast, intense and entertaining. The game was part of an on-campus event called the Freeze Fest.

Ice hockey is quite popular in River Falls. There is a men´s and a women´s team on campus and the freshly renovated Hunt Arena which is part of the Falcon Center is the Falcon´s home stadium. From what I saw I think the arena, teams and all the surroundings are probably the same as for a German 1st or 2nd league ice hockey team. I watched a men´s game and they unfortunately dropped a tight contest to Lawrence University. The match was truly fast-paced and intense, and the Falcons fought hard for the win even though they didn´t make it in the end.

I will definitely come back for some more matches during the season as there are still plenty of chances left to do so.

After the match I went to the Freeze Fest and had some fun with friends. The Freeze Fest was organized by campus recreation and it included some fun stuff such as Bubble Soccer, Dodgeball, Crate Staking and Open Skating till midnight. It was good to do something unusual especially as finals are coming up and there is quite a bit of work ahead of all of us. There is only one week of classes left and so there are a lot of assignments to tick off…

In addition to this special event we had a really nice international potluck in the dorms this week. We invited all the international friends, and everyone had to bring some typical food for his home country. We had German potato salad and sausages, South Korean Kimchi, Brazilian cheesebread, Taiwanese steak, soup, curry and a delicious breakfast dish as well as real American Tacos ;) It was a great chance to try some new delicious dishes and it´s always good to get in touch with the international community from time to time!

By the way: It got really cold these days. Temperatures around negative 10 degrees Celsius are quite common and you can tell that people didn´t lie when they told us it´s getting really, really cold in Wisconsin!
