UW-River Falls to Host Economic Summit Featuring Charles Kao

Sept. 1, 2011--The University of Wisconsin-River Falls will host an economic summit on  Sept. 16 featuring a presentation by Charles Kao on "An Economic Perspective of U.S., China and Taiwan." Kao's presentation is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Riverview Ballroom of the University Center on campus.

Kao is the founder and chairman of the Commonwealth Publishing Company in Taipei, Taiwan. He taught in the department of economics at UWRF from 1964 to 1998 and served as department chair from 1971 to 1980. Kao was named the UWRF Distinguished Teacher in 1974.

"As an international expert on China, Taiwan, and the relationships with the United States, Dr. Charles Kao's presentation will provide the audience with great insight into the problems and the solutions to those problems that divide us," says Glenn Potts, dean of the College of Business and Economics. "Dr. Kao has studied and worked in East Asia and China since leaving River Falls and I am anxious to hear what he has to say about our economic relationship with our old friend Taiwan and the emerging giant, China."

Cathy Wurzer, host of Morning Edition on Minnesota Public Radio and Emmy Award winning co-host of Almanac on Twin Cities Public Television, will serve as the summit moderator. Wurzer is a 1992 graduate of UWRF.

The summit is sponsored by the UWRF College of Business and Economics, John and Helen Huang, the St. Croix Valley Foundation, and the UW-River Falls Foundation.
