Temple Grandin to Speak at UW-River Falls

Sept. 12, 2014--Temple Grandin will deliver a lecture, "The World Needs all Kinds of Minds," at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Riverview Ballroom. Grandin is one of the most respected experts on humane animal handling in the world and an advocate for individuals on the autism spectrum. She is a professor of animal science at Colorado State University. 

Tickets are for sale at the Information Desk in the University Center on campus and may be purchased in person or over the phone at 715-425-3911. Admission is $5/UWRF students, faculty, and staff and $10/public. Advance ticket purchase is encouraged as the event is likely to sell out.  

The event is sponsored in part by the Oscar Mayer/Kraft Foods Faculty Scholar of Livestock Welfare and Behavior Award. Established in 2013, and granted to Kurt Vogel, of the UWRF Animal and Food Science Department, the award provides three years of financial support to increase educational opportunities for students in the livestock welfare and behavior field through the development of new courses, support for applied research activities, and support for animal welfare assessment teams.    

Proceeds from the event will benefit the UWRF Alpha Zeta Fraternity, an academic society focused on excellence in agriculture, and the UWRF Livestock Welfare and Behavior Laboratory.
