Students Brave the Chill for UWRF’s Second Annual Freeze Fest

Feb. 7, 2011—University of Wisconsin-River Falls students jumped into a fresh new semester with a week full of Freeze Fest activities hosted by Falcon Programs. The week of Jan. 24-29 engaged and invigorated students with entertaining and interactive events.

A dance club night featured Minneapolis-based DJ Soviet Panda and a self-defense clinic featured Michael Ellefson, chief instructor for the Midwest Center for Movement. Comedian Jasper Redd entertained a packed Riverview Ballroom in the University Center, and the week wound down with Midnight Mayhem on Friday.

Midnight Mayhem featured singer/song writer Amanda Duncan, Nerf wars, henna, a casino room, beanbag toss, DJ dance, Break Dance Club demonstrations, crafts and food. Students were entered into the drawing for a cruise for the various events they have participated in this year. Bingo was played at midnight after the cruise winner was announced.

Maranda Mahr, Falcon Programs’ traditions programmer says, “It’s a bonus when students can take away information to develop as an individual. The self-defense program was great because now many students have learned the skills to defend themselves if the opportunity ever presents itself.”
