UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN River Falls
July 17, 2015 -- The Peissig family of JTP Farms in Dorchester will open their doors to alumni of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) on Saturday, Aug. 22.
Jake and Tolea Peissig both graduated from UW-River Falls in 2003 with degrees in agricultural education and went on to farm with Jake's parents, Tom (a 1976 graduate of UWRF) and Peggy. Tolea is also a certified yoga instructor and operates Twisted Rooster Yoga out of one of the barns on the farm. Whitney Peissig Thone, Jake's sister, is a 2011 graduate in agricultural marketing communications, working for John Deere and currently serving on the CAFES Alumni Board.
The event will begin at 4 p.m. with a casual social and dinner. After dinner, the Peissigs will offer a first-hand look at their operation that consists of 247 cows with four robotic voluntary milking systems and, in 2013, boasted a record-breaking average of 6,453 pounds of milk daily per system.
"Touring this state-of-the art, well-managed facility will be very interesting, and the social event is bound to be a great time," said Peter Weber, Genex National Account Manager and CAFES Alumni Board member.
Following the tour, the socializing will continue around the bonfire.
"Central Wisconsin boasts a large number of UWRF graduates," said Wendy Kannel, Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation Ag in the Classroom Coordinator and CAFES Alumni Board member. "We hope many recent and long-time CAFES alumni will join us for some fun, some food, and a chance to meet old UWRF friends and make some new ones."
JTP Farms is located west of Dorchester on County Road A. For directions and to RSVP before August 15, visit our event registration page or call 715-425-3535.
