New York Philharmonic tuba player Alan Baer is Artist in Residence


April 5, 2023 - New York Philharmonic tuba player Alan Baer is the Artist in Residence at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls April 10-14.

Alan Baer HeadshotBaer will share his skills as a performer, pedagogue and educator during this residency. He will perform James Woodward "Tuba Concerto" with the St. Croix Valley Symphony Band led by Kris Tjornehoj, "Sinfonia" by Gregory Fritze with Gary Bird and the University Band, and the Gary Ziek "Tuba Concerto" led by the UWRF Symphony Band.

A masterclass on Thursday, April 13, will be followed by a tuba/euphonium ensemble rehearsal, culminating in a performance of "Yesterday" and "Wabash Cannonball" in a public concert at 7:30 p.m. in Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building on campus. Tickets available at the door: $8/adults, $5/seniors and $2/students.

To conclude his residency, Baer, on tuba, will be featured at the Frances Cohler Coffee Concert Series along with UWRF faculty member and collaborative pianist Ivan Konev, at noon on Friday, April 14, in Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building. This free public concert will be followed by refreshments and conversation.
