Morning With a Professor Series Set

By Trista Gropp

March 4, 2011--The Spring 2011 Morning With a Professor public lecture series begins at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on March 22.

The public lectures are part of a tradition that started in 1988 and continues to captivate the local community today. This spring’s series includes six different lectures that take place on Tuesday mornings from 9-11 a.m. in the Kinnickinnic River Theater of the University Center.

Current UWRF faculty members from various academic departments deliver the public lectures. The spring series includes lectures from Glenn Spiczak of the Physics Department on “The Space Frontier” on March 22; Purnendu Vasavada of the Animal and Food Science Department on “Feeding the World: Food Science and Technology for Tomorrow at UWRF” on March 29; Mathew Vonk of the Physics Department on “Physics in the Hot Zone” on April 5; David Trechter of the Agricultural Economics Department on “Poverty in Western Wisconsin” on April 12; Jane Harred of the English Department on “American Humor: Friend of the Disadvantaged?” on April 19; and Eileen Korenic of the Physics Department on “So, You Used to Be an Aries? The Astronomy of the Zodiac” on April 26.

“The topics are always interesting and stretch your imagination. The professors have the ability to get you excited and are very passionate,” says Cindy Wells-O’Malley, outreach coordinator for the lecture series.

Registration is open to all St. Croix Valley community members and includes the six lectures, coffee and light refreshments. Campus parking is also available on a first-come, first-serve basis through registration.

The registration fee is $59 and can be paid online or mailed. Further information and registration can be found at https://www.uwrf.edu/ContinuingEducation/MWP.cfm or by calling the Outreach Office at 715-425-3256.
