Junior selected for Agriculture Future of America Student Advisory Team

Jared RetzlaffApril 4, 2018 – University of Wisconsin-River Falls junior Jared Retzlaff is one of only ten students from across the nation selected to serve on the Student Advisory Team for Agriculture Future of America (AFA). AFA is a leadership and professional development organization for college students and young professionals.

Retzlaff, of Omro, is studying agricultural marketing communications and is active in the Agricultural and Business Marketing Society (ABMS) and Collegiate Farm Bureau. He served as the campus ambassador for AFA last year before being selected through a competitive application process to represent his peers at the national level on the advisory team.

A major component of the Student Advisory Team responsibilities is the planning and delivery of the 2018 AFA Leaders Conference to be held in November in Kansas City, Mo. More than 800 delegates from across the nation will be selected to attend. Retzlaff will join his team members in Kansas City later this month for training and to kick off the planning process. Throughout the summer, team members will also visit corporate partners and potential partners of AFA.

Retzlaff is excited to be part of the advisory team planning the conference. In 2016, he was introduced to AFA when he was selected to attend the AFA Leaders Conference. Since then he has attended the AFA Policy Institute, AFA Animal Institute, AFA Food Institute and the 2017 Leaders Conference.

“I am excited to continue building my network of current and future leaders in agriculture and food through my experience on the advisory team,” said Retzlaff. “My goal is to help bridge the divide between consumers and producers. All these experiences are helping me grow professionally and personally.”
